Families of sick children in Atlanta now have a free place to stay just steps from the hospital, with a new Ronald McDonald House offering 110 rooms and 18 transplant suites. The $90 million facility increases the charity’s capacity by 75% and covers lodging, meals and transportation.

A brand new Ronald McDonald House just opened in North Druid Hills, and it’s a total game-changer for families with sick or injured kids. The five-story building has 110 guest rooms, including 18 special suites for kids who have had transplants, and it’s located right next to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s Arthur M. Blank Hospital. This means that families can stay for free just steps away from their kids’ hospital rooms, which is a huge relief during an already stressful time.

The building itself is really cool, with a design inspired by treehouses and backyard adventures. There’s a huge indoor playscape that’s basically the heart of the house, as well as lots of community spaces and an onsite dining area with two full-time chefs. The whole place is designed to feel welcoming and comfortable, like a home away from home. And the best part is that it’s all free for families, which can save them a ton of money on lodging, meals, and transportation.

The new Ronald McDonald House is a big deal because the need for it has been growing so fast. The organization used to have a smaller facility in the area, but it was getting too full, so they built this new one to meet the demand. In 2023, they served over 3,000 families and provided more than 25,000 nights of rest, and they’re expecting to be able to serve even more people now. By offering free lodging and support services, they’re able to save families millions of dollars in expenses, which can be a huge burden when you’re dealing with a child’s medical crisis.
